What is the Average Retirement Age: Will You be Ready?

average retirement agePlanning for Retirement?  Let’s look at the current average retirement age and the age at which people think they will be able to retire (if they are still currently working)…..

A recent Gallup poll conducted in April 2013 shows that the average age that people SAY they actually retire is 61, up 4 years from 57 for most of the 1990’s.

Of those that are currently STILL working, most say they will be working until or after age 65.  Here are the poll results of non-retired Americans…  37% say they will retire after 65, 26% at age 65, and 26% before age 65.

But here’s something that’s really interesting…. or alarming….  as people get older, their expected average retirement age increases.

Turns out that Americans have anxiety later in life and their biggest financial concern is funding their retirement.  According to Gallup, a whopping 61% say they are worried about having enough money for it. Thus, postponing retirement could help Americans save enough money to live comfortably.

With this climate, people are notably preoccupied with how to save money for retirement, especially as they age.  How much do you need?  Check it here.

Where do you fit in scheme of things?  Do you need another income source?  What about the DREAM of retiring early  – is that something you would like to pursue?

These questions can be very sobering, but they can also be empowering.  Knowing the facts, at least, gives you your bearings.  If the picture doesn’t look the way you want it to, then let it call you to action to change it.

What do you want your Retirement Age to be?

More and more people are turning to adding part-time income streams and online businesses options to aid them in reaching their goals.

But with the unemployment rate stagnating between 7.5 – 8%, competition for part-time work is high.  According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in April, the number of persons employed part time for economic reasons (sometimes referred to as involuntary part-time workers) increased by 278,000 to 7.9 million.  These individuals were working part time because their hours had been cut back or because they were unable to find a full-time job.

What about part-time business opportunities? There are actually many home based business opportunities that help people bridge the gap.  There are 38 million Home Based Businesses in the USA right now.  But how do you choose which one is right for you?

It depends on how much time you have and where you want to do your work.  Many at-home opportunities require most of your time to be out of the home, building your business and networking person-to-person.

Typical online opportunities require detailed knowledge in order to be successful, but there are a few opportunities available that are easy for beginners to get started.  The one I  recommend to people I consult with is one that I have had great personal success with.

You do not need to be tech savvy and have detailed knowledge of the internet to get started.  Most of the top income earners with this business DID NOT have that when they started.

You DO need to be willing to LEARN and FOLLOW DIRECTIONS.  If you can do this, I have an easy-to-follow system that can help you bridge the gap and create a modest income or a full-time income, depending on what you want to do with it.
